Seven years ago our Sunday morning worship service was growing and seating was limited. I asked 100 people from that service to launch a Saturday night service. It would require a one year commitment, people would serve in classrooms teaching children, an additional band, technical support, greeters... Philippians 2:4 reads: "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others." And that is what we set out to do.
Everything that was offered on Sunday would be offered on Saturday. This would mean everyone would sacrifice, everyone would place the needs of others, people who had not attended MCC in the past, their need for a Savior, their need for a church would come first. Our vision was that people from our community who work on Sundays, or people who would never give 'church' a thought otherwise would come out on Saturday night.
Those 100 people, our staff, and others made the commitment. We launched on Derby Weekend with 125 present.
Since that time, of the 480 people that have accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord or joined the church as immersed believers, 200 have come through that Saturday night service. Just this past Saturday the 201st person was baptized.
The Apostle John wrote: “No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” 1 John 4:12. What an amazing promise, that as we act on God’s prompting, as we love others selflessly, addictions are healed, hearts are mended, children are purposed, spouses come home, the church explodes with growth, giving increases, hope is shared, and lives are saved.
Live in the overflow this week by living selflessly, and celebrate with us this Saturday night at 5:30.
