Just days from now, many of our students are going back to school. It's time to get supplies ready, adjust sleeping patterns, prepare younger siblings for the separation anxiety that is sure to come. As parents we are reminded how important it is to pray for God's lead as we teach our children at home and entrust them to the care of others who are partnering with us in this the most critical of their formative years.
To be very transparent with you, I have one special student on my mind this week, actually four. And surprisingly I'm not speaking of my oldest daughter. She has my full attention every day. But I'm thinking about a young person who came with her daddy this weekend asking for prayer. She is a keep it to herself kind of kid, but she knows God and she knows that He is very interested in her every thought. And so she came and we prayed privately right there in front of 200 people who were singing around her. We talked to God about her fears and anxiety about entering a new school. There were no tears, just a firm resolve that she needed God's help.
Friends, there is no greater comfort as a parent and there is no greater comfort to our children, than to know that God is with us every moment of the day. This child's mother and father have taught her this truth from an early age. When school begins next week, I'm sure there will be butterflies, anticipation, and wonder. But there will be someone walking beside this child of God and she no doubt will recognize Him because she will be holding tightly to His hand.
Jesus said: "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14)
Saturday August 2nd we are hosting a 4 county community back to school event from 4:30-6:30 right here at MCC to encourage all of our families, teachers, administrators, and most importantly our children as we play together, eat together, and pray. I hope you will make a special effort to be here with your children that day. You will be encouraged and empowered in a great way!
God Bless you as you walk with Him this week.
